Spearfish, S.D. – On October 13, 2024, Adams State (2-8-1, 0-6-0) faced off against Black Hills State (2-6-4, 2-3-1) at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. Despite a strong effort, Adams State was defeated 4-2 in a high-energy game that saw exciting plays from both sides.
The action started early with Black Hills State taking a quick lead. Just over a minute into the match, Zoe Evans scored the first goal, assisted by Paige Hill. Less than a minute later, Hill found the back of the net herself, giving the home team a 2-0 lead.
Adams State responded in the second minute, with Madeline Everett finding the net off an assist from Grace Abbott, bringing the score to 2-1. Despite several chances, Adams State couldn't equalize before Jayda Hammer extended Black Hills State's lead with a goal at the 40-minute mark. The teams went into halftime with Black Hills State leading 3-1.
In the second half, Adams State continued to push forward, creating opportunities. Sophia Tice found the net at the 41st minute, assisted by Cassandra Jaramillo, bringing the Grizzlies back within one goal. But Zoe Evans struck again for Black Hills State, scoring her second of the game at the 56-minute mark, sealing the 4-2 victory.
The Grizzlies outshot the Yellow Jackets 18-11, and had 9 shots on goal compared to their 4, forcing their goalkeepers to make 7 saves. Everett and Tice were standout performers for the Grizzlies, each scoring a goal.
The Grizzlies will be back in action next Sunday at home against Colorado Christian University at 11 a.m.
