Adams State Falls to Colorado Christian Despite Early Lead

Alamosa, Colo. – In a hard-fought match at ASU Soccer Field, the Adams State Grizzlies (2-9-1, 0-7-0) suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Colorado Christian Cougars (4-7-2, 3-4-1) on October 20, 2024. The Grizzlies started strong with an early goal but couldn't hold off a second-half surge by the Cougars.

Adams State struck first in the 6th minute when forward Colette Tena found the back of the net, giving the Grizzlies a 1-0 advantage. Both teams battled for control, with Adams State managing 6 shots to Colorado Christian's 7 in the opening half. Grizzlies' goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley made key saves to preserve the lead going into halftime.

The Cougars responded quickly after the break, leveling the score at 1-1 with a goal from Jessie Sims in the 50th minute, assisted by Ava Schock. Just over a minute later, Ava Dinverno put the visitors ahead with a goal off an assist from Sims.

Colorado Christian sealed the game in the 61st minute when Justine Moreau scored, with Dinverno providing the assist. The Grizzlies struggled to regain momentum, managing only four second-half shots.

Adams State's defense fought hard, but Colorado Christian's offense overwhelmed them with 16 total shots, 6 of which were on target. Bartley made three saves for the Grizzlies, but it wasn't enough to stop the Cougar attack.

The Grizzlies will be back in action on Thursday when the MSU Denver Roadrunners travel to town for a 3 p.m. match.
