Alamosa, Colo. – Despite a valiant defensive effort, the Adams State women's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to MSU Denver on Thursday afternoon at the ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field. The tightly contested match saw the Grizzlies hold their own against a strong MSU Denver side, but a first-half penalty kick sealed their fate.
The lone goal of the game came in the 24th minute, when MSU Denver's Monica Yoder converted a penalty, giving her team the lead that they held for the remainder of the match.
Adams State goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley was instrumental in keeping the Grizzlies in the game, recording four saves, including several key stops in the first half. The Grizzlies had a few chances, with Karlee Caballero leading the offense with two shots, one of them on target, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Despite being outshot 16-5 and allowing seven corner kicks, the Grizzlies fought hard, showing resilience against a formidable opponent. Madeline Everett and Denali Levin each had attempts for the Grizzlies but were unable to break through MSU Denver's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Kylie Bach.
The defeat drops Adams State to 2-10-1 overall and 0-8-0 in conference play. Adams State's next match will be at home on Sunday, when they face No. 1-ranked Colorado School of Mines.
