Adams State Defense Shines in 0-0 Standoff with CSU Pueblo

Pueblo, Colo. – In a hard-fought, defensive showdown, the Adams State Grizzlies held CSU Pueblo to a 0-0 draw on Thursday. The Grizzlies showcased their determination on the field, with standout performances, particularly from goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley, who made six critical saves to secure the shutout.

The game opened with both teams exchanging early shots and testing each other's defense. CSU Pueblo's offense attempted to break through Adams State's backline, with Sydney Lasater leading the charge. Lasater fired a shot on target just over six minutes into the match, but Bartley was quick to react, keeping the score level. Another strong save from Bartley came when CSU Pueblo's Jerzie Troost targeted the top corner, yet again finding Bartley an unyielding barrier. Adams State's defense remained steadfast, effectively managing CSU Pueblo's 14 total shots throughout the game.

On offense, the Grizzlies produced key moments that threatened the CSU Pueblo defense. Forward Denali Levin led Adams State's attacking efforts, registering a shot on goal that forced a save from CSU Pueblo goalkeeper Elaina Leitner at the 38th minute. The Grizzlies earned two corner kicks, but CSU Pueblo's defense held strong, preventing Adams State from converting these opportunities.

Throughout the second half, both teams continued to push for a game-winning goal. Adams State midfielder Madeline Everett had one of the Grizzlies' best chances just seven minutes into the half, but her shot was saved by Leitner. In the 69th minute, Grace Abbott's shot nearly gave Adams State the lead, but her attempt bounced off the top woodwork, narrowly missing the target. Another close opportunity came late in the game as Colette Tena's shot was again denied by Leitner.

CSU Pueblo kept up the pressure, with Garland testing Bartley multiple times in the final 10 minutes, but Bartley preserved the shutout. Adams State's disciplined defense accumulated just six fouls, while CSU Pueblo was called for seven, as both teams played a physical but controlled match, limiting each other's scoring chances.

The draw brings Adams State's season record to 2-11-2 overall and 0-9-1 in conference play. Still in search of their first conference win, the Grizzlies play at home on Sunday against UCCS at 1:30 p.m.
