Western Colorado Holds Off Adams State in Tight 2-1 Match

Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State women's soccer fell to Western Colorado, 2-1, Friday afternoon. Despite the Grizzlies' 17 shots, they were unable to capitalize in a hard-fought 90 minutes.

The Mountaineers struck early. In the 17th minute, Cianna Thomas scored the first goal for Western Colorado, assisted by Reilly Schindler. Adams State struggled to gain momentum, and by the 34th minute, Western Colorado extended its lead to 2-0, thanks to Abby Raio's goal, set up by Natsuki Murakami.

Adams State tightened its defense in the second half and created more opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 57th minute when Colette Tena found the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Despite a flurry of attacks and 17 total shots, Adams State couldn't find the equalizer.

Goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley recorded two crucial saves to keep Adams State in the game, while Aubree Orosco of Western Colorado made six saves to preserve her team's lead. Adams State dominated in corner kicks, 8-5, but Western Colorado's early goals proved decisive.

With the result, Adams State drops to 2-5-1 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play. Despite the loss, Adams State's second-half fight showed promise as they look to bounce back against Fort Lewis on Sunday at 1 p.m.
