Lakewood, Colo. – In a closely contested match on Sunday, Adams State fell 2-1 to Colorado Christian at Trailblazer Stadium.
Adams State took an early lead in the ninth minute when Avery Richards scored with an assist from Jelmer Fokkink. The Grizzlies held on to the advantage through the first half, thanks in part to several key saves from goalkeeper JP Fernandez.
Colorado Christian found their rhythm in the second half, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 65th minute with a goal from Arthur Santana, assisted by Tiago Gomes and Adrian Diez. The Trailblazers took the lead in the 87th minute when Lucca Casci converted a penalty kick.
Adams State's efforts to equalize fell short, and frustrations boiled over in the final moments, resulting in a red card for defender Mario Alejo at the conclusion of the match.
Adams State, now 2-4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play, will look to rebound next week when they face Regis on Thursday at home. Colorado Christian improves to 3-1-6 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
