Denver – Adams State pulled off a hard-fought victory Friday night, defeating Regis University in a five-set RMAC showdown at the Regis University Fieldhouse. The Grizzlies rallied to a 19-25, 26-24, 25-14, 10-25, 15-11 win, improving their record to 11-15 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
The match was a back-and-forth battle with 15 ties and 10 lead changes, showcasing the competitive intensity between the two squads. Adams State's offense was led by Anna Huggins, who recorded a match-high 19 kills while adding 14 digs and two service aces. Cindy Garcia added 13 kills and five blocks, while setter Remi Vargas directed the offense with 25 assists and a service ace.
Defensively, Sierra Leone Sanchez delivered 15 digs, and Peyton Priddy chipped in with 11 digs, helping the Grizzlies withstand Regis' offensive efforts. Despite a fourth-set setback, Adams State regained control in the decisive fifth set, fueled by clutch plays from Huggins and Garcia. With the score tied at 9-9, the Grizzlies took over, capitalizing on key kills and timely blocks from Hadleigh Richardson and Katie Bauer to seal the match.
Regis, now 12-13 overall and 8-5 in the RMAC, was led by Braiziah Dixon's 15 kills and nine blocks. However, the Rangers' .136 hitting percentage was outpaced by the Grizzlies, who combined for 54 kills and 12 total blocks while hitting .119.
Adams State will look to build on the win as it continues its push for postseason play as they take on UC-Colorado Springs tomorrow at 3 p.m. for their final game of the regular season.
