MBB | No. 3 Skyhawks down Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo.—Adams State encountered a formidable challenge in their matchup against No. 3 ranked Fort Lewis College. Ultimately, Fort Lewis emerged triumphant with a final score of 101-83.

In the first half, Adams State demonstrated resilience and determination despite trailing. Isaiah Sampson showcased dominance in rebounding, securing both defensive and offensive boards to provide crucial possession opportunities. Additionally, Austin Fadal made significant defensive contributions, grabbing rebounds and disrupting Fort Lewis' offensive rhythm.

Despite facing pressure from Fort Lewis, Adams State remained composed. A pivotal moment occurred when Destan Williams drained a crucial three-pointer, helping Adams State narrow the deficit and stay competitive, going on a 9-0 run tie the game before a small run helped the Skyhawks take a small lead.

In the second half, Adams State continued to battle against Fort Lewis College, exchanging offensive and defensive plays. Despite the deficit, Adams State showed unwavering determination as players like Fadal and Sampson made notable contributions in an effort to close the gap.

However, Fort Lewis maintained control of the game, with players like Junior Garbrah and Jhei-R Jones leading the offensive charge and ultimately securing the victory.

Austin Fadal showcased versatility and impact, shooting efficiently with a 45.5% field goal rate and sinking 66.7% of his three-point attempts. He grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 6 assists, and recorded 2 steals. Isaiah Sampson displayed consistency, shooting 57.1% from the field and contributing 6 rebounds, including 3 offensive boards, and 1 block.

Looking ahead, on February 16th (Friday) at 7:30 p.m., Adams State will square off against Western Colorado University in an RMAC matchup at Plachy Hall.
