ALAMOSA, Colo. - A late surge by the Adams State University Grizzlies was countered with another surge by the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets as they escaped Plachy Hall with a 103-97 nail biter.
Â
Adams State dominated the first half, securing a commanding 53-28 lead with impressive shooting percentages of 64.3% from the field, 8-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.
However, Black Hills State mounted a remarkable comeback in the second half, sinking nine three-pointers and going a perfect 14-of-14 from the free-throw line to outscore the Grizzlies 65-44.
Despite leading for the majority of the game, the Grizzlies experienced seven lead changes and endured six ties, ultimately falling short in the intense matchup.
The Grizzlies displayed a well-balanced performance, with Kolby Walker leading the charge with 26 points, just shy of his career-high. Destan Williams contributed 19 points, while Austin Fadal, Jude Tapia, and Luke Williams added 15, 15, and 12 points, respectively.
Looking ahead, Adams State aims to shake up the RMAC standings as they conclude the regular season with matchups against MSU Denver and Colorado School of Mines next week.
