WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In non-conference play affected by weather adjustments, the Adams State University baseball team faced tough losses, dropping two games against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday afternoon.
GAME 1: SWOSU 12, ASU 5
Despite a promising start with Mike Bathauer's first home run of the season putting Adams State ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, SWOSU quickly responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, followed by another run in the second, taking a 5-2 lead. Phil Carter narrowed the gap with a home run in the following inning, but SWOSU maintained control, ultimately securing the win.
Connor Murray, in his second loss of the season, pitched 4.1 innings, conceding nine runs, seven earned, with three walks and seven hits. Adams State added three runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome SWOSU's lead.
GAME 2: SWOSU 10, ASU 5
Once again, Adams State initiated with a strong start as Mike Bathauer hit a double down the left field line. However, SWOSU quickly took the lead with three runs in the first inning. Despite Adams State narrowing the lead in the fourth, SWOSU's pitching and defensive efforts secured their victory with four runs in the later innings.
Despite seven hits, Adams State's three defensive errors proved costly. Bathauer and Jake Raker contributed two hits each, with Raker scoring three of the team's five runs.
