LAS VEGAS, N.M. – A decisive second-half surge propelled the Adams State University men's basketball team to a 92-85 victory over the New Mexico Cowboys in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play on Friday night.
Austin Fadal led the charge with a career-high 27 points for the Grizzlies, complemented by
Destan Williams with 15 points and
Isaiah Sampson contributing 13. The Grizzlies displayed sharp shooting, boasting a 53.7 percent field goal percentage as a team.
After a closely contested first half with eight ties, NM Highlands secured a 42-35 lead at halftime. However, Adams State rallied, erasing a seven-point deficit early in the second half with an impressive 8-1 run, seizing a 50-49 lead with 14 minutes remaining.
The momentum remained with Adams State as they executed three significant runs, pulling away from their opponents. Crucially, Adams State dominated the free-throw line, sinking 29-of-28 attempts, with 20-of-25 coming in the second half alone.
Looking ahead, Adams State will face CSU Pueblo on Saturday as they seek to extend their winning streak against the ThunderWolves.
