After a closely contested first half with eight ties, NM Highlands secured a 42-35 lead at halftime. However, Adams State rallied, erasing a seven-point deficit early in the second half with an impressive 8-1 run, seizing a 50-49 lead with 14 minutes remaining.

The momentum remained with Adams State as they executed three significant runs, pulling away from their opponents. Crucially, Adams State dominated the free-throw line, sinking 29-of-28 attempts, with 20-of-25 coming in the second half alone.
