LAS VEGAS, N.M. – A strong start propelled the Adams State University women's basketball team to a hard-fought victory over the New Mexico Cowgirls, prevailing 70-56 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action.
Despite being outrebounded 44-21, the Grizzlies showcased balanced scoring with five players reaching double figures. Riri Davis led the charge with 15 points, followed by Dominguez with 13, Kiiyani Anitielu with 12, Kayla Harris with 11, and Angelline Nageak with ten.
Shooting efficiently at 46.8% from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc, Adams State held a 26-18 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 41-29 by halftime. However, the Cowgirls mounted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Grizzlies 16-13 to narrow the gap to 54-42.
Despite a strong free throw shooting performance by the Cowgirls in the fourth quarter, going 6-of-6, Adams State held on for the win, converting 16-of-25 free throws throughout the game.
Adams State will look to carry this momentum into their next game as they face off against CSU Pueblo on Saturday.
