SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University's softball team secured a doubleheader victory against Adams State on March 10, winning by scores of 4-3 and 10-2 in five innings.
The defeats leave ASU with a 3-22 overall record, with a conference play standing at 1-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets, on the other hand, advance to 9-12 overall and 8-8 in conference matchups.
In the opener, BHSU secured the win with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. ASU managed to score through a two-run homer by Caylie Eiguren (who finished with two hits in three at-bats) and a solo home run from Makayla Veglia. Pitcher Aubree Davis pitched 6 ⅓ innings, striking out one batter.
Ashlynn Pauwels contributed three hits and an RBI for the Yellow Jackets, while Shayla Tuschen added a hit and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Black Hills State capitalized with two five-run innings to complete the sweep. ASU struggled with just three hits, one of which was a fifth-inning home run by Mayayla Veglia. ASU's other run came from a wild pitch. Alyssa Wong and Laci Peskey each drove in two runs for the Yellow Jackets.
Adams State's upcoming games are scheduled in Grand Junction, with doubleheaders against Colorado Mesa University starting at noon on Saturday, March 16, and 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 17.
