ALAMOSA – William Jewell College scored five unanswered goals in the first period and went on to a 17-7 win against Adams State March 12 in Alamosa.
The Cardinals improved to 4-3 this season, while the Grizzlies fell to 1-3.
ASU spread out its scoring effort among
Drew Guerrero,
Matthew Lash,
Devon Schmidt,
Kris Owens (he scored twice),
Danny Joy and
Tyler Hubbard. WJC's Seth Heath and Eric Ramirez capped off their hat-trick efforts with fourth-period goals. Nathaniel Leroux scored twice, as did Jake Wynecoop, Hunter Mee and Adam Bailey.
Grizzlies' goalkeeper
Ryan Berger made 13 saves on 45 Cardinals' shots. WJC's goalkeeper, Fynn Ziebarth, made 11 saves on 38 Grizzlies' shots. Adams State converted one of five attempts with an extra attacker on the field. WJC was 0-for-2 in that category.
Adams State returns to action at 3 p.m.,Thursday, March 14 match, hosting Quincy College.
