PARK CITY, Kan. – Following an impressive performance on the opening day of the 2024 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, Adams State's three qualifiers aimed to climb higher on the podium on Saturday. As the season drew to a close, Isaiah Gamez and Angel Flores both secured fourth place finishes, while Aaden Valdez settled for seventh.

Adams State emerged as the top team from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) with 33.5 team points, boasting only three wrestlers in contention. Western Colorado trailed with 20.5 points, followed by Colorado School of Mines with 17, and Colorado Mesa with just 6.5 despite having six qualifiers. Chadron State, the RMAC dual performance champions, managed just one point.

On Saturday, Gamez displayed resilience, going 2-1 with a thrilling sudden victory over Davenport's Manuel Leija in the first match and securing a fall in 4:06 against Wisconsin-Parkside's Shane Corrigan in the consolation semifinal. However, Gamez narrowly missed third place, falling 4-3 to Laner's James Joplin.

At 141 pounds, Angel Flores mirrored Gamez's efforts, clinching a tiebreaker win over West Liberty's Khyvon Grace and a major decision victory over Upper Iowa's Tate Murty. Nevertheless, Flores settled for fourth place after an 11-2 major decision loss to McKendree's Ronan Schuelke.

Valdez contributed to the Grizzlies' campaign with an exchange of sudden victory matches. Despite dropping the consolation third-round match, he rebounded in the seventh-place match, triumphing over St. Cloud State's Anthony Herrera with a commanding 13-0 victory.
