BASE | Grizzly Pitching Dominates Cougars in Doubleheader

PUEBLO, Colo.— In a doubleheader held at Rawlings Field in Pueblo, Colorado on March 17th, the Grizzlies secured victories in both games against Colorado Christian University, claiming a 3-0 shutout in the first game and a 6-1 win in the second.

With these wins, the Grizzlies improve to 8-16 overall and 3-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. On this remarkable day, the Grizzlies witnessed their pitchers clinch two wins while yielding only one run and tallying 20 strikeouts against Cougar batters.

In the initial game, Adams State asserted dominance early, seizing the lead with a run scored, backed by three hits. Ayden Tauscher's double to right-center field kept pressure on the opposition, and Matt Bathauer's single to left field brought Tauscher home for the decisive run.

Despite multiple hits and runners on base in various innings, Adams State struggled to convert opportunities until the 9th inning. With two outs, a double to center field brought in Tauscher and Ryan Downs for two insurance runs.

Brian Walters claimed his second win of the season, pitching eight shutout innings against Colorado Christian. Needing just 98 pitches, he faced 30 batters, striking out ten while scattering four hits.

Ty Addington, who allowed only one hit, secured his second save of the season with another strikeout.

In the second game, the Grizzlies launched a robust offensive, scoring two runs on an error right out of the gate. Michael Bathauer's subsequent homer to left field extended the lead to 3-0.

During the fifth inning, Adams State added two more runs. Raker's double to left-center field brought in both Seth Reker and Matt Bathauer.

Later in the seventh inning, Adams State tallied another run with one hit. Matt Bathauer's double to left-center field drove in Mike Bathauer.

Cesar Loma earned a complete game win, conceding only one run on five hits with no walks and ten strikeouts.

Looking ahead, ASU is poised to face Colorado Christian University in a doubleheader on March 18th, Monday, starting at noon, followed by another game scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
