ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Grizzlies dominated Sunday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game, warding off any threat of snow with their scorching bats. They amassed 24 hits, including nine extra-base hits, propelling them to their eighth consecutive victory, 21-15.
With this triumph, the Grizzlies have surged into the top three in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, boasting a 14-16 overall record and a 9-3 conference standing.
Mike Bathauer ignited the scoring with a reach on an error, driving in a run, followed by Seth Reker's single to center field, bringing Ayden Tauscher home, establishing a 2-0 lead after one inning.
Caleb Eiguren contributed with an RBI single to bring in Matt Bathauer, extending the lead.
Despite New Mexico Highlands cutting the lead in half in the top of the third, the Grizzlies swiftly regained momentum, tallying eight runs in the bottom of the inning, fueled by a barrage of hits from 11 batters.
Maintaining their offensive prowess, the Grizzlies secured a 14-3 lead after the fourth inning. However, the Cowboys staged a comeback, hitting a three-run home run in the top of the fifth, narrowing the gap.
After both teams exchanged runs in the fifth, a pivotal pitching change in the sixth saw a flurry of hits, allowing the Cowboys to close the gap to 18-14.
Adams State fortified their lead with additional runs in the bottom of the seventh, sealing the victory. The two teams exchanged runs in the eighth inning.
Matt Bathauer showcased an outstanding performance, going 5-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs.
Looking ahead, the Grizzlies will have a week to prepare for crucial conference games, as they gear up to face the Colorado School of Mines in a four-game series in Golden, Colorado, in two weeks' time.
