ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State scored six goals in the first period and held on for a 15-11, home-field win against Colorado State University-Pueblo March 6. The game was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
The Grizzlies, who won their first match of the season, have played three times thus far this season. CSU-Pueblo slipped to 0-3.
Adams State's lead was three goals going into the fourth quarter. But Dawson Balbanoff and
Brett Carberry scored within the first four minutes of the frame to give the Grizzlies some breathing room.
Balbanoff and
Kris Owens scored three times for ASU.
Tyler Hubbard and
Matthew Lash added a pair of tallies. Chris Easley topped CSU-Pueblo's scoresheet with three goals. Kevin Gallagher scored twice, and Andrew Dzubek added a pair of goals plus four assists.
CSU-Pueblo fired off 36 shots. Adams State's goalie,
Ryan Berger, recorded 16 saves. ASU tried 41 shots, eight of which came off Balbanoff's stick. CSU-Pueblo's Connor Russell stopped 10 shots.
Adams State won 10 of the 30 face-offs and caused 18 CSU-Pueblo turnovers.
The Grizzlies host William Jewell College (of Liberty, Missouri) at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.
