Alamosa, Colo. - The Adams State baseball team played their final two games of their four game series versus the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday. The Grizzlies split today dropping the first game 3 to 4, but bounced back and won the second game 10-3. The Grizzlies win the series in Colorado Springs and these games bring the Grizzlies to 22-24 on the season and 17-11 in RMAC play.
Adams State 3, UCCS 4
The Grizzlies wer the first on the board scoring 1 run in the second inning, and two in the 3rd, but the Grizzlies would not bring any runners across home plate the rest of the game. UCCS came out to score 3 runs in the bottom the 7th which would seal the win for the Mountain Lions.
The Grizzlies had 3 runs on 8 hits from 33 at bats compared to UCCS' 4 runs on 10 hits and 31 at bats.
Adams State 10, UCCS 3
The Grizzlies did not let the first game hinder them as they erupted for 10 runs in the second game of the series to secure the win. The Grizzlies were the first on the board in game two, scoring right away in the first inning and then came alive to score 5 runs in the third inning. UCCS would get on the board in the first inning, scoring 1 run. The Grizzlies defense held them to no more than one run in the fourth and sixth inning. While up 6 to 3, the Grizzlies decided to really seal the deal and scored another four runs in the top of the 7th. The Mountain Lions could not respond and the Grizzlies took game four and the series.
The Grizzlies had 10 runs on 14 hits from 36 at bats compared to UCCS' 3 runs on 11 hits and 30 at bats.
Sunday's win marks the 22nd win this season for the Grizzlies. This ties the program record for wins that was set back in 2016. Also, for the first time since 2016, the Grizzlies have secured an RMAC playoff spot with the series win this weekend.
Next Up
The Grizzlies will roll into next weekend as they host the #1 seeded Colorado Mesa Mavericks. Because it is the last weekend of conference play, the series will start on Thursday at 3:00pm in Alamosa.
