Grizzlies Defeat Sul Ross State 3-0 on Senior Day

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State University improved to 2-2-1 on the season with a commanding 3-0 win over Sul Ross State on Saturday at the ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field. The Grizzlies struck early and never looked back, dominating possession and earning their second victory of the year on their way to celebrating Senior Day.

The Grizzlies opened the scoring in the 10th minute, as Grace Abbott found the back of the net off an assist from Karlee Caballero. Adams State doubled its lead less than 10 minutes later when Caballero netted a goal of her own, assisted by Colette Tena, giving the home side a comfortable 2-0 cushion going into halftime.

Adams State kept the pressure on in the second half, adding a third goal just after the break. Forward Brissa Toribio capitalized in the 47th minute to seal the game. Despite some late efforts from Sul Ross State, including two shots on goal, they were unable to overcome the Grizzlies' defense, which held strong throughout the match.

The Grizzlies outshot the Lobos 14-2, with five shots on goal compared to Sul Ross's two. Goalkeepers Lianna Albert and Ashlyn Bartley split time in net for Adams State, each recording a save to secure the clean sheet.

"Today was all about the seniors. A senior was a part of every goal that was scored. Overall, it was a great team performance from off the field to on the field. We played over 22 players, and the level never dropped," Head Coach Alex Greco said.

The Grizzlies honored five seniors today: Brissa Torbio, Angelica Figueroa, Kylie Chavez, Hailey Kwiatkowski, and Nevaeh Clouse, a group that has combined for five goals and three assists.

The Grizzlies will be back on the road next week, facing Westminster on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Colorado Mesa on Sunday at 12 p.m.
