Grizzlies Struggle in Loss to Western Colorado, 38-0

Gunnison, Colo. – In a rainy showdown at Mojo Field, Adams State (0-3, 0-1 RMAC) struggled to find their footing as they were shut out by Western Colorado (3-0, 1-0 RMAC) on Saturday night.

The Grizzly offense had difficulty moving the chains. Starting Quarterback Chase Nelson completed 17 of 35 passes for 112 yards with two interceptions. On the ground, Ahmare Merrida and Jordan Niesent combined for just 7 yards on eight carries each. The passing game showed more promise, with Damon Bell and Alex Reid combining for eight receptions and 53 yards.

Adams State's defense held strong early, but Western Colorado's ground attack wore them down. Mountaineers running back Braeden Hogan punched in two 4-yard touchdowns, while Royce Pao added another score on a short run, leaving the Grizzlies trailing 21-0 at halftime.

Western Colorado continued to dominate in the second half, adding a field goal and two more touchdowns to extend their lead to 38-0. Seth Moss led the Grizzlies' defense with 11 tackles, including one for a loss, while Christopher Williams contributed three tackles and an interception.

Adams State will look to bounce back at home next weekend as they face CSU-Pueblo for Homecoming, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
