Alamosa, Colo. – In a sunny afternoon showdown at Rex Field, Adams State fell to CSU Pueblo on Homecoming, 66-10. Despite a promising start, the Grizzlies were unable to sustain momentum against the high-powered ThunderWolves.
Adams State took an early lead when kicker Brysen Gardner drilled a 35-yard field goal, putting the Grizzlies up 3-0. Just minutes later, the defense delivered a highlight-reel-worthy moment as Traivian Denesto intercepted a pass and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown, giving Adams State a 10-8 advantage in the first quarter.
Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Grizzlies found the scoreboard. CSU Pueblo's offense, led by quarterback Devin Larsen, accumulated 718 total yards. Larsen threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns, while backup Roman Fuller added 149 passing yards and three additional scores.
Adams State's defense remained resilient throughout the game, even as CSU Pueblo's offense continued to stretch the field with big plays. Linebacker Seth Moss was everywhere on the field, leading the defense with nine solo tackles and contributing a key forced fumble. Delson Dacalio also made his presence felt with seven total tackles and a pass breakup, while Jason Adkinson and Jahsai Shannon chipped in with timely stops and forced turnovers. Despite being on the field for extended stretches, Adams State's defense battled hard, registering two sacks and a pair of interceptions.
For Adams State, quarterback Alexander Grado faced a tough CSU Pueblo defense, completing 12 of 31 passes for 82 yards. Ahmare Merrida contributed with 45 rushing yards, but the Grizzlies were unable to break through CSU Pueblo's stout defense.
Adams State hits the road once again next week, traveling to Chadron State, where they look to pick up their first win on the road at CSC in history. Kickoff is set for noon.
