Grand Junction, Colo. – Adams State jumped out to a fast start, but Colorado Mesa rallied in the second half to secure an 89-74 victory Saturday night at Brownson Arena.
The Grizzlies (6-8, 1-5 RMAC) shot 50% from beyond the arc in the first half and led 47-44 at the break. Ta'Veus Randle and Luke Williams each scored 14 points to pace Adams State, while Jude Tapia added nine points and three assists.
Colorado Mesa (8-6, 2-4 RMAC) took control in the second half, outscoring Adams State 45-27. The Mavericks dominated the glass, finishing with a 48-33 rebounding advantage. Mason Honeyman led all scorers with 19 points, while Ty Allred recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Grizzlies struggled offensively in the second half, making just 25.7% of their shots from the field and hitting only one three-pointer. Foul trouble also plagued Adams State, with three players fouling out.
Adams State returns home next week to face Chadron State on Thursday before facing South Dakota Mines on Saturday.
