Grizzlies Women Soccer Ties 1-1 Against MSU Denver

DENVER, Colorado — In a hard-fought defensive battle between Adams State and MSU Denver, the match ended in a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes. The tie puts the Grizzlies at a record of 6-5-3(2-4-2 RMAC).

In tonight's match, defense ruled supreme as neither team was truly able to get much going offensively the entire match. During the first half, neither team was able to get any true offense going as neither the Grizzlies nor MSU Denver was able to score. In the first half, the only offense was the three shots on goal by the Grizzlies. Adams State managed a total of 4 shots in the first half, while MSU Denver managed 2 shots, of which neither shot was on goal.

In the second half, the story was slightly different as both teams were able to score their lone goal of the game. MSU Denver scored first in the second half with a goal by Monica Yoder. Yoder's goal was her third of the season and was scored at the 54:35 mark, giving them a lead before the Grizzlies were able to tie up the game with their lone goal later in the second half. The Grizzlies' goal came at the 76:38 mark and was scored by Grace Abbott. Abbott's game-tying goal was her sixth on the season and continues to add to her great senior season as she adds to a career high in goals she set earlier in the season.

Looking closer at the Grizzlies' individual stats, they were mainly led by Grace Abbott in today's match as she played 80 minutes and recorded 4 shots, 3 of which were on goal. One of those was the only goal and the game-tying goal for the Grizzlies in the second half. Also taking shots on goal in tonight's match were Mia Del Muro, with 2 shots on goal, along with Aja Lister and Lorena Vargas-Galvan, each with 1 shot on goal, giving the Grizzlies a total of 7 shots on goal for the game. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the MSU Denver goalie had a great game and saved 6 of the 7 shots on goal from the Grizzlies, which kept MSU Denver in the game and allowed them to stay tied with the Grizzlies.

Next the upcoming game for the Grizzlies will be a tough match against the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, which is currently second in the RMAC with a record of 11-2-2 (7-1-1 RMAC). Although the game against UCCS will be challenging, it also provides an opportunity for the Grizzlies to improve their position in the RMAC standings. They are currently in eighth place but are within striking distance of moving into the top five in the conference. With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Grizzlies aim to continue their strong play this season to secure a spot in the RMAC tournament.
