Adams State Women's Soccer Falls at the Hands of UCCS, 4-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — In a Sunday afternoon match against the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, the Grizzlies fell by a score of 4-0. The loss puts Adams State at a record of 6-6-3(2-5-2 RMAC) and places them in a tie for ninth place in the RMAC standings, with the RMAC tournament set to begin at the end of the conference regular season. The Grizzlies will look to continue their push for the playoffs as the regular season winds down with only three matches left.

Taking a closer look at today's match, the UCCS Women's Soccer team really took the win in the second half, as they scored three of their four goals in the second half. In the first half, the Grizzlies kept it close, keeping the UCCS Mountain Lions to a single goal at the 34:16 mark. The goal for UCCS was scored by Abby Stassi, her 13th of the season. Outside of their lone goal in the first half, UCCS had 4 other shots on goal that the Grizzly goalie, Ashlyn Bartley, was able to save, keeping the score after the first half 1-0.

Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, UCCS's offense got going in the second half, scoring 3 goals. The goals were scored by Abby Stassi and Emily Aguilar. Stassi netted 2 of the 3 goals, earning a hat trick, and Aguilar scored the third goal in the second half, giving UCCS a 4-0 lead at the 77:24 mark. In the second half, the Grizzly goalie, Bartley, struggled, saving only 2 of the 5 shots on goal before Kena Keyes entered the match to finish as the Grizzlies' goalie. Keyes made her save, stopping the one shot on goal UCCS had on her.

The story of tonight's match was truly the Grizzlies' inability to get any offense going. UCCS was able to control the ball for most of the match as the Grizzlies were only able to secure 2 shots in the entire match, of which neither was on goal. The UCCS defense truly held down the Grizzlies, giving their offense the ability to have a multitude of opportunities. Overall, the Mountain Lions had 22 shots throughout the match, of which 11 were on goal.

Individually, for the Grizzlies tonight, the only offensive shots were made by Aja Lister and Mia Del Muro. Lister played 46 minutes in tonight's match to secure her one shot, while Del Muro played 29 minutes to secure her own shot. Outside of Lister and Del Muro's shots, the Grizzlies were unfortunately held down on the offensive side of the ball against the UCCS defense.

Looking forward for the Grizzlies, they will return home this week to play the first of three final matches in the regular season. The home match will be against Colorado State University-Pueblo at 3 PM MST on Thursday, October 30th. The match presents an excellent opportunity for the Grizzlies to climb up in the standings, as CSU Pueblo is just ahead of them in the RMAC standings. With only three matches remaining in the season to determine if they can qualify for the RMAC tournament, the Grizzlies will aim for a huge home win this Thursday. Come out and support the Grizzlies as they strive to make the playoffs this season.
