Grizzlies Pitch Shutout Against CSU Pueblo Securing 2-0 Victory

ALAMOSA, Colorado — In a pivotal match against Colorado State University, Pueblo, the Grizzlies take the home win by a score of 2-0. The win puts the Grizzlies at a record of 7-6-3(3-5-2 RMAC) and puts them in seventh place in the RMAC standings with two RMAC matches remaining.

In the must-win home match against CSU Pueblo, the Grizzlies were able to pitch a shutout while also scoring 2 goals to take the 2-0 victory. Defensively, the Grizzlies were truly special today as they only allowed 1 shot the entire match. The one shot by CSU Pueblo wasn't even on goal, which made it an easy match for the Grizzly goalie Ashlyn Bartley, who did not have to save a single goal all day.

Offensively for the Grizzlies, they were led by Ashlynn Mustain and Lorena Vargas-Galvan, who each scored a goal. Vargas-Galvan opened the scoring at the 33:13 mark, followed by Mustain's goal at 80:21 to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. Mustain's goal was assisted by Annabell Haugen. Offensively, Fatso Williams stood out with 3 shots during the match, and Grace Abbott also had 2 shots, with 1 on goal that was saved by the CSU Pueblo goalie.

Overall, it was truly a great showing of what the Grizzlies are capable of doing when they play together as a united team. With continued play like this, the Grizzlies will have a great opportunity to make the RMAC tournament this year.

After the match was complete, Coach Greco stated, "This group of girls is amazing. As a staff, we could not be prouder of each and every single one of these women. They have battled through the good and the bad, making the journey thus far one to always remember. It is truly a pleasure being able to continue to play, while also controlling our own path".

What Coach Greco speaks of is an amazing feat for the Grizzly women as they go into their final two matches with the opportunity to secure their spot in the RMAC tournament by winning their final two matches of the year. With two final wins to finish the season, the Grizzlies will guarantee themselves a spot in the tournament for the first time under Coach Greco's leadership. The Grizzlies currently sit in seventh place in the RMAC standings, with two wins in their final two matches. The Grizzlies can only move up in the standings, giving them a better seed heading into the playoffs.

Coming up for the Grizzlies will be a road match against Colorado School of Mines. The match will be played on Sunday, November 2nd at 12 PM. The match will be a tough one for the Grizzlies, but it will be a great opportunity for them to prepare for the playoffs, as Colorado School of Mines has already secured its spot in the RMAC tournament. After the match against Colorado School of Mines, the Grizzlies will finish their season at home next week when they face off against New Mexico Highlands to close out the regular season. Keep watch of the Grizzly women as they prepare to secure a spot in the RMAC tournament.
