Alamosa, Colo. — Adams State football fell 49–10 to New Mexico Highlands on Saturday evening at Rex Stadium.
After a slow start, the Grizzlies found momentum late in the first half. Senior quarterback Gavin Herberg connected with Jaysn Wade for a two-yard touchdown with just ten seconds left before halftime, capping a 75-yard drive to bring the score to 17–10. Earlier in the quarter, kicker Quinton Pacheco got Adams State on the board with a 37-yard field goal.
The Cowboys, however, took control in the second half, outscoring the Grizzlies 32–0 behind a dominant rushing attack that tallied 431 yards on the ground.
Herberg finished the night with 148 passing yards and a touchdown. Blaine Peebles led the receiving corps with two catches for 59 yards, including a 45-yard grab that set up the first-half score. Defensively, Mafileo Tupou led Adams State with 13 tackles, while Anthony Henry and Mason Smiley each added seven stops.
Adams State totaled 241 yards of offense and 13 first downs in the loss.
The Grizzlies travel to Fort Lewis College next saturday, with a kickoff set for 1 p.m.
