Denver — Two second-half goals lifted Adams State University to a comeback victory over Colorado Christian University on Sunday afternoon, securing a 2–1 win in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.
The Grizzlies (6-2-1, 2-1-0 RMAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit to earn their second conference win of the season. Colorado Christian (1-5-3, 0-2-2 RMAC) opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Sophia Tagge found the back of the net, assisted by Olivia Maxfield.
Just under five minutes into the second half, senior Fatso Williams equalized for Adams State, with an assist from junior Lauren Ocampo. In the 63rd minute, the Grizzlies took the lead on a goal by junior Mia Del Muro, set up by Williams.
Following the go-ahead goal, Adams State's defense held strong, led by goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley, who recorded two crucial saves to preserve the win.
"What an exciting game," said head coach Alex Greco. "When we went down, we flipped a switch. That's when we started to play our way. When Fats scored, we took all the momentum, which led to our second goal with our press and a beautiful cross and finish from Mia. Ash had two HUGE saves at the end to close it out. Another team win. This group is showing how resilient they are."
Adams State will look to extend its winning streak on Thursday as the team travels to Gunnison to face Western Colorado University.
