GUNNISON, Colorado — In a hard-fought battle against Western Colorado, the Adams State Women's Soccer team tied 1-1 in a crosstown rivalry RMAC match in Gunnison, Colorado. The match puts the Grizzlies at a record of 6-2-2(2-1-1 RMAC).
In tonight's game, defense truly reigned supreme, especially in the first half, as neither team was able to score despite both teams having multiple shots on goal. In the first half, Western Colorado had 6 shots on goal, but all 6 were saved by the Grizzly goalie Ashlyn Bartley, who had a great night overall. The Grizzlies were able to have 2 shots on goal, which were both saved by the Western Colorado goalie. Overall, Western Colorado had more opportunities in the first half, but it did not matter as the Grizzly defense was able to stand tall and keep the Western offense at bay.
During the second half, it was an absolute back-and-forth battle between Adams State and Western Colorado, with both teams securing 1 goal, leading to the tie in tonight's game. Overall, statistically, it was very close, with the Grizzlies having 7 shots, 2 of which were on goal, while Western Colorado had 8 shots, 4 of which were on goal. Bartley did secure 2 more saves in the second half compared to Western's goalie, but outside of this, the match was extremely close in every other statistical category.
Scoring the lone goal for the Grizzlies was Fatso Williams, who scored her 8th goal of the season, which leads the Grizzlies on the season. Williams is truly having a great season as she continues to lead the Grizzlies' offense to an outstanding season. Standing out for the Grizzlies alongside Williams was the Grizzly goalie Ashlyn Bartley, who finished with 9 saves on the 9 shots on goal by Western Colorado.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, they scored a goal on themselves, which tied up the game in the second half after the Grizzlies scored their one goal. Overall, it was a great match outside of the one hiccup by the Grizzlies, and it is a match the Grizzlies can continue to build on.
Looking forward to the Grizzlies' next game this Sunday, October 12th, against Fort Lewis University. The match will be held at noon MST at Fort Lewis's home field in Durango, Colorado. It will be a great opportunity for the Grizzlies to continue building on an excellent season so far.
