Colorado Springs, Colo. – Adams State wrapped up its regular season on Saturday afternoon, battling but ultimately falling in straight sets to No. 24 UCCS, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 at Gallogly Events Center.
The Grizzlies (15-14, 9-7 RMAC) pushed the Mountain Lions in all three frames, hanging within striking distance thanks to an efficient offensive day from Hadleigh Richardson, who led Adams State with 15 kills on .387 hitting, while also adding 14 digs for a strong all-around performance.
Adams State found early momentum in the opening set, taking multiple small leads and generating four team blocks to slow UCCS's attack. However, a late push from the Mountain Lions, powered by Payton Tompkins' hot hand, closed out set one 25-21.
In the second frame, Richardson and Mercy Martinez (9 kills) provided key swings to keep ASC close, but UCCS used three service aces and timely runs to pull away for a 25-19 win.
The Grizzlies delivered their strongest offensive set in the third, hitting .293 behind 17 kills, including contributions from Olivia Lunt (6 kills) and Rowan Tribelhorn (5 kills, 4 blocks).
Despite the surge, UCCS again used a late-set push to seal the match, 25-21.
Adams State finished the match with 41 kills, 44 digs, and seven total blocks, highlighted by defensive contributions from Richardson, Martinez (5 digs), and libero Ellie Miller (8 digs, 11 assists).
With the regular season complete, the Grizzlies now shift their focus to postseason play, returning to the RMAC Tournament for the first time since 2017. They face off against No. 1 ranked MSU Denver in Denver, Colo. at 7 p.m. MT for round one of the RMAC Tournament.
