Adams State Outlasts Greyhounds in Plachy Hall Thriller

Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State women's basketball team battled through a back-and-fourth matchup to earn a 66-63 win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday evening inside Plachy Hall. With the victory, the Grizzlies improve to 3-1 on the season.

After a slow start offensively, Adams State found its rhythm in the secon quarter and carried that momentum through the secon dhalf. The Grizzlies outscored the Greyhounds 42-36 after halftime, shooting an efficient 67 percent from the field in the thrid quarter to take control of the game.

Elaina Watson led the Grizzlies with a standout performance, scoring 20 points while adding five rebounds and four steals. Taejhuan Hill delivered a dominant effort inside, notching a 21-point, 10 rebound double-double along with three blocks. Ashiian Hunter provided a key spark on both ends, finishing with 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Grizzlies trailed 27-24 at the break but quickly erased the deficit behind a 22-point third quarter. A three-pointer from Kiiyani Anitielu tied the game early in the period before Hill and Watson took over offensively, helping Adams State build its largest lead of the night.

Eastern New Mexico pushed back in the fourth, cutting the game down to one possesion in the final minute, but the Grizzlies held strong defensively and closed out the win at the free-throw line. Adams State finished 19-for-24 at the stripe, while limiting the Greyhounds to just 36 percent shooting overall.

Adams State returns to action next week as the Grizzlies continue their nonconference slate facing off against Simon Fraser in a neutral site game at MSU Billings.
