Richardson, Texas — Adams State closed out Saturday night with one of its grittiest finishes of the season, erasing a late deficit and beating Texas-Dallas 87-86 after a chaotic final two minutes inside the UTD Activity Center.
The Grizzlies trailed for most of the second half but stayed within striking distance behind steady scoring from Luke Williams and strong interior play from Wyatt Helming. With two minutes left and Adams State down 83–77, the momentum shifted. Emilek Jallow sparked the run with a steal and a fast-break layup, and Williams followed with another finish at the rim to close the gap to 83–81.
Texas-Dallas briefly pushed the margin back to four from beyond the arc, but Adams State continued to attack. Dillan Baker knocked down a tough jumper with 1:07 remaining to make it a one-point game.
Williams took the inbound with two seconds remaining and threaded a perfect pass to Helming slipping to the rim. Helming finished through contact with one second left to tie the game at 86–86 and drew the foul. He stepped to the line and knocked down the go-ahead free throw, giving Adams State its first lead since early in the half.
Williams led all scorers with 28 points while adding several clutch plays late. Helming posted 21 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks, and Dillan Baker added 14 points with four threes. Adams State finished with 25 assists on 32 made field goals and dominated the paint with 48 points.
The Grizzlies improve to 5-2 and storm off the floor with an 87–86 win. The Grizzlies open RMAC play on the road at Colorado School of Mines Thursday.
