The Grizzlies Continue Their Historic Season, Beating CSU Pueblo 2-0 in the First Round of Playoffs

ALAMOSA, Colorado — Hosting their first playoff match in program history, the Grizzlies used their home field advantage to take the first-round playoff win against CSU Pueblo. The Grizzlies won today's match 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the RMAC Championship Tournament and improve their record to 9-7-3, as they continue to add to their program record win total.

The story of today's match was the Grizzlies' ability to start fast and play aggressively, as they took an early 2-0 lead by scoring both of their goals within the first 7 minutes. Ashlynn Mustain scored the first goal at the 2:46 mark, followed by Fatso Williams' goal at 6:27. Mustain's goal was her third of the season, while Williams' goal was her ninth. Williams continues to lead her team in goals and overall points. She now has 21 points in 17 games this season. Overall, offensively today, the Grizzlies took 12 shots, 3 of which were on goal, resulting in their 2 goals.

The early offense the Grizzlies secured turned out to be more than enough as the Grizzly defense, along with Senior goalie Ashlyn Bartley, pitched a shutout today. Bartley was able to save all 4 shots on goal by the CSU Pueblo offense, helping lead the Grizzlies to their shutout. For Bartley, this was the eighth time this season she has pitched a shutout and the third time in the last 4 matches she has played in. If Bartley continues her great goalkeeping, the Grizzlies will have a great opportunity to continue to make a run in the RMAC Championship Tournament.

Looking elsewhere for the Grizzlies and following the lead of Williams and Mustain's early goals was Lauren Ocampo, Mia Del Muro, Keira Robertson, and Grace Abbott who all secured shots in today's match. Ocampo and Del Muro both had 2 shots, Robertson had 1 shot, which was the Grizzlies' third shot on goal, and Abbott secured 4 shots in today's match. The Grizzlies' offense was active in today's match and could have easily led to more goals. The Grizzlies will look to keep this offense going in their next playoff matchup to keep their playoff lives alive and continue their great 2025 season.

Up next for the Grizzlies will be their quarterfinal match against Colorado School of Mines. The match will be on Sunday, November 9th at noon MST. With Colorado School of Mines being the number two seed in the Championship Tournament, they will host the matchup at their home field in Golden, Colorado. The Grizzlies will look to take the match against Mines and continue their magical 2025 season. A win against Mines would push the Grizzlies into the semifinals of the Championship Tournament and place them against either Westminster or UCCS. Support the Grizzlies as they continue their playoff push this Sunday, as the match will be streamed on the RMAC Network.
