Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight Overall, Moving to 3-0 in RMAC Play

LAS VEGAS, New Mexico — The Grizzlies win their fourth in a row overall and third straight conference game, beating New Mexico Highlands by a score of 71-61. The win against the Cowboys puts the Grizzlies at a record of 8-3(3-0 RMAC).

Tonight's game was a true back-and-forth game through the first 3 quarters, until the Grizzlies took over in the 4th quarter to take tonight's game. Through the first three quarters of tonight's game, the Grizzlies were only able to take a 2-point lead over the Cowboys, before a 4th quarter in which they outscored New Mexico Highlands by 8 to take the win by the final score of 71-61.

Looking at the first three quarters of the game, it was a very balanced game by both teams. Neither team's offense nor defense was able to take over the game, making it so close going into the 4th quarter. Through the first three quarters, the Grizzlies shot 48.7% from the floor and 50% from behind the 3-point line, while the Cowboys shot 41.7% from the floor and 37.5% from behind the 3-point line. Although the Grizzlies did shoot better from both the floor and the 3-point line, the Cowboys made 2 more 3-pointers, keeping them close throughout tonight's game.

Ultimately, the deciding factor in tonight's game was the Grizzlies' ability to stop the Cowboys from making 3-pointers in the 4th quarter while also consistently making their free throws. With 17 free throws and 7 in the 4th quarter, along with strong defense that held the Cowboys to 0-4 from behind the 3-point line and 4-14 from the floor, the Grizzlies took over in the 4th quarter to secure their third straight conference win. In the final quarter of today's game, the Grizzlies ended up outscoring the Cowboys 19-11 to finish the game strong and take tonight's win.

Leading the way tonight for the Grizzlies was an outstanding game by Taejhuan Hill. Hill had her best night of the young season, scoring 31 points, securing 13 rebounds, while also collecting 1 assist and 1 steal. Hill played 38 minutes in tonight's win, while shooting 11-19 from the floor and 9-11 from the free throw line for an extremely efficient night. Following the lead of Hill was Elaina Watson and Ashiian Hunter, who both scored double-digits, with Watson scoring 13 points and Hunter scoring 10 points. Watson also recorded 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block, while shooting 6-7 from the floor and making her lone 3-pointer of the night. With the offense of Hill and the all-around great effort on both sides of the ball by Watson, the Grizzlies were able to stay consistent till taking over tonight's game late.

The Grizzlies' next game will be against Fort Lewis College this Saturday, December 13th, at 1 PM MST, in Durango, CO, the home of Fort Lewis College. The game against Fort Lewis will be a great opportunity for the Grizzlies to not only continue their great overall play but also an opportunity to take firm control of the conference early in the season, as Fort Lewis is currently 7-2(2-1 RMAC). Tune into the Grizzlies' next game on the RMAC Network as Adams State will look to win its fifth straight game overall and fourth straight conference game.
