Grizzlies Drop Nonconference Contest to Maryville

TYLER, Texas — In a Thursday afternoon game in Tyler, Texas the Grizzlies fell to Maryville University by a score of 71-60. The loss unfortunately ends the Grizzlies 6-game win streak and puts them at a record of 10-4(4-0 RMAC).

In today's game the big difference was the Grizzlies ability to score throughout the first three quarters. They truly struggled the first three quarters before they started to get rolling in the fourth quarter. Through the first three quarters the Grizzlies were 14-50 from the floor and 4-19 from the 3-point line. The Grizzlies went into the fourth quarter shooting 28% from the floor before going 6-15 from the floor in the fourth quarter to make the game closer before the game finished.

Throughout the game the Grizzlies also struggled to stop the Maryville offense as they were able to shoot 23-49 for a 46.9% field goal percentage and 7-17 from the 3-point line for a 41.2% from behind the 3-point line. With this strong offense and the struggles from the Grizzly offense, Maryville was able to take a 60-45 lead into the fourth quarter before the Grizzlies outscored Maryville 15-11 in the final quarter to close the game out at a final score of 71-60.

Individually the Grizzlies were led by Ashiian Hunter, Taejhuan Hill, and Kiiyani Anitielu. The three women combined for 43 of the Grizzlies 60 points, while also collecting 12 rebounds, and 6 assists. Leading the way in scoring for the Grizzlies was Hunter who finished the night with 20 points while shooting 7-17 from the floor and 4-11 from behind the 3-point line. Hill followed closely behind with an efficient night in which she scored 12 points on 3-6 shooting, while making 6 out of her 7 free throws.

The Grizzlies will head into the holiday break and will not return to action until Jan. 8, when they open up the second half of RMAC play at home facing off against Westminster at 5:30 p.m.
