Adams State Men's Basketball Takes Down Northwest Nazarene 100-90

ALAMOSA, Colorado — In their Friday afternoon game, the Grizzlies Men's Basketball takes a 100-90 victory over Northwest Nazarene University. The win puts the Grizzlies at a record of 7-5(1-3 RMAC) and keeps them perfect at home with a home record of 4-0 after today's victory. 

In today's home victory, the Grizzlies' offense led throughout with an efficient, aggressive attack that allowed them to reach 100 points for the first time this season. The team finished the game shooting 51.7% from the field, making 31 of 60 shots. They also shot an impressive 48% from beyond the arc, hitting 12 of 25 three-pointers. Thanks to this outstanding shooting performance, the Grizzlies took an early lead and maintained it for most of the game. Overall, they led for 37 minutes and 53 seconds compared to Northwest Nazarene, which only led for 1 minute and 2 seconds. The Grizzlies' dominant performance meant they held the lead for 94.7% of the game.

The Grizzlies' offense was not the only place Adams State shone today, as the Grizzlies' defense set up the offense with great play throughout today's win. During the game, the Grizzlies created 21 Northwest Nazarene turnovers, which led to 28 points off turnovers. Along with the 21 turnovers forced, Adams State also collected 13 steals and 3 blocks, giving their offense a multitude of easy opportunities to score and expand the Grizzly lead. Overall, today's win was a great showing of how dominant the Grizzlies can be on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. 

Leading the way for the Grizzlies today were Luke Williams, Dillan Baker, Jarmell Johnson, and Jayce King. Williams led the Grizzlies in scoring today with 26 on an extremely efficient night, finishing 8-14 from the floor and making 10 of his 12 free throws for 26 points. Williams also added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal to round out an amazing game. Baker followed close behind Williams with 19 points on an even more efficient night than Williams, shooting 5-6 from the floor, 2-3 from the 3-point line, and making all 7 of his free throws. Baker was also able to add 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal with his 19 points. Lastly, Johnson and King both finished in double-digits today alongside Williams and Baker. Johnson finished the night with 14, and King finished with 12. Johnson shot 50% from both the floor and the 3-point line, while making 6 of his 8 free throws. King was 4-7 from the floor while leading the 3-point charge of the Grizzlies, making a team lead 4 out of 6 3-pointers. 

Overall, the four men combined for 71 of the Grizzlies' 100 points, leading the way throughout to a dominating win by the Grizzlies against a Northwest Nazarene team that was currently receiving votes in the most recent national poll. The Grizzlies will look to carry this momentum into their next game, which will be after the holiday break on Thursday, January 8th. The Grizzlies' next game will be their first home RMAC conference game as they take on Westminster University at 7:30 PM MST, in Plachy Hall.
