Golden, Colo. — Adams State battled hard but ultimately fell to No. 12 Colorado School of Mines, 97-84, in an RMAC conference showdown at Lockridge Arena on Saturday night.
The Grizzlies (8-12, 3-9 RMAC) struggled to contain the Orediggers (17-3, 11-1 RMAC) in the first half, trailing 50-35 at the break. Despite a strong offensive showing in the second half, Adams State couldn't close the gap against a Mines squad that shot 55.9% from the field and dominated the boards with a 38-26 rebounding advantage.
Jude Tapia led the Grizzlies with 20 points, including four three-pointers. Luke Williams added 17 points, while John Harge contributed 16 points and five rebounds. Adams State thrived in transition, scoring 20 fast-break points, but Mines' efficiency and deep bench—scoring 37 points—proved too much.
Mines was led by Majok Deng, who exploded for 33 points, knocking down four three-pointers and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Orediggers also capitalized on Adams State's 12 turnovers, turning them into 26 points.
Adams State will look to regroup as they finish out their road stretch on Tuesday, as they travel to Fort Lewis before returning home on Thursday.
