DENVER – The Adams State softball team showcased resilience during the first two games of the series against Regis University on Saturday. The Grizzlies put together strong offensive performances but ultimately dropped a close first game 7-6 before falling 6-4 in the second contest.
Game 1: Regis 7, Adams State 6
Adams State started slowly but erupted for a four-run third inning to take an early lead. Kaylee Eyl got the offense rolling, going 1-for-3 with a double and scoring a run. Raegan Johnson was a spark plug at the top of the lineup, finishing 1-for-3 and delivering a crucial two-run double while also scoring once. Grace Hendrickson had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and crossing the plate in the third inning. Emily Sauvageau came through with a key RBI single in the third and later added another RBI on a groundout, finishing the game 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sydney Rodriguez also contributed, collecting two hits in three at-bats, including a double and two RBIs. Jayde Garcia reached base twice and scored a run while also stealing a base to keep the pressure on Regis.
Despite their offensive outburst, the Grizzlies struggled defensively, committing three errors that allowed Regis to capitalize. Pitcher Aubree Davis battled through six innings, striking out four while surrendering five earned runs. The Rangers mounted a late comeback, pushing across two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Game 2: Regis 6, Adams State 4
In the second game, Adams State once again started strong, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Kaylee Eyl remained active at the plate, going 1-for-4 with an RBI single and adding a stolen base to her stat line. Raegan Johnson showed patience and speed, drawing two walks and scoring twice to help set the tone offensively. Emily Sauvageau continued her impressive day, leading the Grizzlies with a 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles and three RBIs. Nevaeh Garcia also made an impact, working a walk and scoring in the seventh inning as Adams State attempted a late rally.
On the mound, freshman Celie Page pitched six innings, allowing six runs, though only four were earned, while giving up ten hits and striking out two. The Grizzlies managed to get runners on base in the final inning but fell short, unable to complete the comeback.
With the doubleheader split, Adams State moves to 2-14 on the season and will look to bounce back tomorrow for their final two games of the series.
