Lubbock, Texas – The Adams State softball team had a mixed showing on Saturday, shutting out UT Permian Basin in a dominant 5-0 victory before falling 11-2 to Lubbock Christian in the second game of the day.
Game 1: Adams State 5, UT Permian Basin 0
Adams State wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Kaylee Eyl set the tone at the top of the lineup, singling to start the game before eventually coming around to score. The Grizzlies capitalized on a combination of aggressive baserunning and key situational hitting to put UTPB on its heels.
The offense continued rolling in the second, adding three more runs to push the lead to 5-0. Emily Sauvageau drove in two with a well-placed sacrifice fly, while Grace Hendrickson added an RBI single to cap off the inning.
With a five-run cushion, Aubrey Davis went to work, delivering a complete-game shutout. The sophomore right-hander allowed just five hits across seven innings, striking out two and walking three while keeping the Falcons' lineup off balance all afternoon.
Davis was particularly effective with runners on base, stranding 10 UTPB baserunners, including escaping a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. Her defense backed her up with 15 assists and 21 putouts, helping keep the shutout intact.
Game 2: Lubbock Christian 11, Adams State 2
The second game of the day proved challenging for Adams State as Lubbock Christian's offense erupted early, plating multiple runs in three innings. The Grizzlies' offense managed only three hits, with Jayde Garcia collecting an RBI in the fourth.
Freshman Brooklyn Burgess took the loss in the circle, surrendering 10 earned runs over four innings while striking out two. Defensive miscues added to Adams State's struggles, as the Grizzlies committed two errors and allowed five stolen bases.
Adams State (2-8) will look to bounce back as they open RMAC play at home next Saturday against Black Hills State.
