Phoenix, Arizona — Adams State responds well taking game two of the series against St. Cloud State, taking the game by a score of 5-1. The win brings the Grizzlies to 3-13 on the season and allows them the opportunity to win the series in the final two games of the series tomorrow.
The Grizzlies started the scoring off in the second inning as
Josiah Hall hit his second home run of the season to right center. The home run was a solo shot, giving the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. Hall followed up his home run with another RBI in the top of the third, hitting a sac fly that scored
Braden Watkins after Watkins started the inning off with a lead-off single.
Brian Walters led the way for the Grizzlies on the mound, earning his second win, giving him a 2-2 record on the season. Walters surrendered five hits and one run over seven innings of work, striking out six and walking two. For St. Cloud State, Bryce Brassfield got the start, collecting the loss after tossing four innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out four, and walking one.
Walters had his best stuff of the season, throwing 92 pitches with the ability to spot up all four of his pitches, consistently leaving the Husky hitters off balance the entire day.
Phil Carter followed Walters, collecting his first save of the year over his two innings of work where he collected five strikeouts, gave up one hit, and hit one batter.
On the offensive side for the Grizzlies, they piled up 10 hits in the game, led by Hall, along with
Christian Altamirano,
Braden Watkins, and
Seth Reker, who all collected two hits in the game. Both Hall and Reker also collected four of the Grizzly RBIs, leading the way for the Grizzly offense. On top of their 10 hits, the Grizzlies also collected six walks and two hit by pitches, giving them a total of 18 baserunners on the night.
Tae Kim led the way for the Huskies offensively, collecting two hits on the night and continuing his hot streak over the weekend. Kim's two hits tonight give him five on the weekend in the series' first two games.
Next up, the Grizzlies will take on the Huskies again in a doubleheader at Phoenix College. The games will be tomorrow, Sunday, March 2nd, with the first game starting at 11 AM MST and the second game following shortly after. The Grizzlies will look to build on tonight's huge win and go for a series win tomorrow against the Huskies in the final two games of the series.
