Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State softball team battled hard but came up short in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against MSU Denver. The Grizzlies managed to put runs on the board in both contests but were unable to keep pace with the Roadrunners' potent offense.
Game 1: MSU Denver 6, Adams State 2
MSU Denver got on the board early before the Grizzlies responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Kaylee Eyl scored after Emily Sauvageau reached first on an error.
MSU Denver added another run in the third inning with a two-run single from Geist, driving in Boring and Maney, before adding three more runs in the fifth.
Adams State answered in the bottom of the sixth with a ground-rule double from Sydney Rodriguez, bringing in Jayden McBride. Aubree Davis took the loss for the Grizzlies, pitching seven innings and allowing six earned runs.
Game 2: MSU Denver 16, Adams State 3 (5 innings)
After a four-run first inning and a two-run second inning for the Roadrunners, the Grizzlies, trailing 7-0, responded in the bottom of the second with an RBI triple to center field from Eyl, driving in Jayde and Neveah Garcia.
Defense kept the third inning scoreless before MSU Denver broke the game open with a nine-run fourth. Adams State added one more run in the bottom of the fourth on a triple by Jayde Garcia, scoring Brylyn Haddick to make it 16-3.
The Grizzlies will wrap up the series against MSU Denver with a doubleheader Sunday, starting at 11 a.m.
