Adams State Closes Regular Season with Gritty 68-67 Win Over Chadron State, Secures No. 3 Seed in RMAC Tournament

CHADRON, Neb. – The Adams State women's basketball team closed out the regular season in dramatic fashion, edging Chadron State 68-67 on Saturday evening. With the win, the Grizzlies improve to 19-10 overall and 14-6 in RMAC play, clinching the No. 3 seed in the RMAC Tournament. 

Looking Ahead

With the No. 3 seed locked in, Adams State will host No. 6 UC-Colorado Springs in the RMAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Plachy Hall. Fans planning to attend are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance through the link at the top of the page or by clicking here Tickets will also be available at the door, but cash sales will not be accepted. 

For those unable to make it to Plachy Hall, the game will be streamed live on the RMAC Network. Fans can purchase either a day pass or championship pass to watch the action at http://rmacnetwork.com.

Tuesday's game will be a White Out and Grizz Gang Shirts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for fans in attendance. Everyone is encouraged to wear white and bring the energy as the Grizzlies look to defend their home court.

Saturday's Game

The matchup was a battle from start to finish, featuring nine ties and eight lead changes as both teams fought until the final buzzer. Chadron State came out firing, taking a 19-11 lead after the first quarter. However, Adams State responded with a 22-point second quarter, cutting the deficit to three at halftime.

The Grizzlies continued to chip away in the third quarter behind strong defensive play and a relentless effort on the boards. In the final period, Adams State made the key plays down the stretch, including clutch free throws and a big defensive stop in the closing seconds, to escape with the victory.

Taejhuan Hill put together a dominant performance, leading all scorers with 29 points and grabbing 14 rebounds for a huge double-double. She was relentless at the free-throw line, hitting 15-of-18 attempts, and added two assists and a steal. Kiiyani Anitielu was a key offensive spark, dropping 18 points with three made three-pointers, while also pulling down six rebounds and coming up with a crucial defensive stop. Ri'Ahana Davis stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with seven points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, providing a steady presence on both ends of the floor.

Defensively, Adams State forced 17 turnovers and recorded eight steals, disrupting Chadron State's offensive rhythm. The Grizzlies also won the battle at the free-throw line, converting 22-of-29 attempts, which proved to be the difference in the one-point win.

 The Grizzlies will look to extend their postseason run and take the next step toward a conference championship. Tipoff is set for Tuesday night in Alamosa. Fans are encouraged to pack Plachy Hall as Adams State looks to keep their season alive and make a deep tournament run.
