Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies faced off against Fort Hays State in a neutral site doubleheader at Mountain Lion Field but were unable to come away with a victory, falling in both contests. Despite their efforts, the Grizzlies struggled to generate enough offense to keep pace with the Tigers, who capitalized on strong hitting performances and key defensive plays.
Game 1: Fort Hays State 10, Adams State 0 (5 Innings)
The opening game of the series was a tough one for Adams State as they were held scoreless in a 10-0 run-rule loss. The Fort Hays State offense came out swinging, launching three home runs in the early innings to establish control.
Adams State's bats were kept in check by the Tigers' pitching staff, as the Grizzlies mustered just two hits in the contest—one from
Jayde Garcia and the other from
Caylie Eiguren. The Grizzlies struggled to generate scoring opportunities, leaving three runners on base.
On the mound,
Brooklyn Burgess started for Adams State but had a difficult outing, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, including three homers, in 3.1 innings of work. Ceile Page came in for relief but could not slow down the Fort Hays offense, which continued to apply pressure and closed out the game early.
Game 2: Fort Hays State 12, Adams State 6
The second game saw a stronger offensive showing from Adams State, but it wasn't enough to overcome Fort Hays State's powerful lineup. The Grizzlies managed to push six runs across, but a six-run sixth inning from the Tigers proved to be the difference in a 12-6 loss.
Adams State's offense took advantage of Fort Hays State's defensive miscues, with the Tigers committing four errors. The Grizzlies also found success with timely hitting, keeping the game competitive through the first five innings. However, Fort Hays State erupted for six runs in the sixth, breaking the game open. The Tigers continued to add on in the seventh, securing the series sweep.
With the losses, Adams State drops to 4-24 on the season and will look to bounce back as they face Colorado Mesa at home this weekend for a four game series, starting Saturday.
