Colorado Mesa Takes First Two Games Against Adams State

Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State faced a tough challenge in their weekend series against Colorado Mesa, dropping both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Despite a valiant offensive effort in game two, the Grizzlies were unable to overcome early deficits as Colorado Mesa's offense proved too much to handle.

Game 1: Colorado Mesa 9, Adams State 1
Adams State struggled to generate offense in the series opener against Colorado Mesa, falling 9-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Colorado Mesa took control in the third inning with a two-run frame and continued to build on its lead, scoring in every inning from the third onward. The Mavericks racked up 12 hits, including two home runs and a triple. Adams State managed just five hits, with their lone run coming in the bottom of the first, when Sydney Rodriguez hit an RBI double to bring in Kaylee Eyl for the Grizzlies.

On the mound, Colorado Mesa's pitching was dominant, allowing just one run while striking out six. Aubree Davis battled, but couldn't contain the Mavericks' steady offensive attack.

Game 2: Colorado Mesa 10, Adams State 6
Game two saw Adams State put up a stronger offensive effort, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome as they fell 10-6 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Colorado Mesa stormed out to a commanding 7-0 lead after two innings, but Adams State refused to back down. The Grizzlies made defensive adjustments in the top of the fourth, and their bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth. Jayden McBride reached third on a dropped third strike and a throwing error, setting the stage for Brynlyn Haddick, who drove her home with an RBI single. Stella Coler and Caylie Eiguren followed with back-to-back doubles, plating two more runs and fueling Adams State's comeback attempt.

The Grizzlies continued to battle in the seventh, pushing across three more runs behind a pair of RBI singles and a fielder's choice. Despite their late surge, the deficit was too great to overcome as Colorado Mesa held on for the win.

Adams State will look to bounce back in the final two games of the series on Sunday.
