Alamosa, Colo. -- The Adams State softball team wrapped up a tough four-game series against Colorado Mesa, falling in all four matchups over the weekend. Despite moments of promise, the Grizzlies struggled to keep pace with the Mavericks' relentless offense and solid pitching.
Game 1: Adams State 4, Colorado Mesa 16
Adams State came out swinging in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning. However, Colorado Mesa responded immediately, putting up three runs in the first and five more in the second, ultimately cruising to a dominant 16-4 win in just five innings
The Grizzlies' offense managed five hits, including a Grace Hendrickson home run, but costly defensive errors—four in total—allowed the Mavericks to take full advantage. Game 2: Adams State 1, Colorado Mesa 13
In the series finale, Adams State's bats went cold, mustering only one run on five hits. Meanwhile, the Mavericks put up eight runs in the first inning, setting the tone for another lopsided game. Mesa added five more in the fifth, securing a 13-1 victory via run-rule
Adams State's Ceile Page held Colorado Mesa scoreless in the second, third, and fourth innings, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Fielding issues persisted, and the Grizzlies left six runners on base, missing chances to close the gap
With the losses, Adams State falls to 4-28 on the season (2-18 in conference play). The team will look to regroup and sharpen its execution as it prepares for its next series.
