Alamosa, Colo. — Adams State struggled in Saturday's doubleheader, falling to Fort Lewis in both games at home.
Game 1: Fort Lewis 13, Adams State 3 (5 innings)
Fort Lewis (4-22, 3-18 RMAC) erupted for 12 runs in the final two innings to secure a 13-3 win over Adams State (5-21, 3-17 RMAC) in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Although the Grizzlies got ahead early with a three-run third inning, with a Sydney Rodriguez triple, followed by a single from Grace Hendrickson, the Skyhawks used a six-run fourth inning and another six-run burst in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Adams State struggled offensively, managing just three runs on seven hits. Hendrickson and Kaylee Eyl each managed two hits during the contest.
Aubree Davis started in the circle for the Grizzlies, totaling 4.0 innings pitched with three strikeouts. Brooklyn Burgess finished the final inning of the game.
Game 2: Fort Lewis 8, Adams State 6
The second game was a back-and-forth battle, but they Skyhawks always managed to stay just out of reach for the Grizzlies who came up short in seven innings 8-6 Fort Lewis built an early lead and held off a late push from the Grizzlies. Scoring two-runs in the second and third inning before a three-run sixth to push the game just out of reach. The Grizzlies went down swinging scoring a lone run in the second and third inning off a Caylie Eiguren double and an error on the Skyhawks right fielder. After a scoring drought in the fourth inning, Grace Hendrickson sent Jadyen McBride home on a single.
Hendrickson added another RBI in the seventh inning after a single to right field scored Malia Coit. One pitch later, Emily Savaguea sent Sydney Rodriguez and Hendrickson home after a double down the right field line. But the seventh inning surge was not enough and the Grizzlies finished the game down by two.
Celie Page pitched all 7 innings for the Grizzlies and recorded 4 strikeouts.
Adams State will play Sunday for the final two games of the series, with the first game starting at 11 a.m.
