Adams State Drops Series to Fort Lewis

Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State University softball team faced a tough challenge Sunday, dropping both games of a home doubleheader against Fort Lewis College at ASU Softball Field. The Grizzlies struggled to generate offense in the opener, falling 9-0, before a late-inning comeback bid came up just short in an 11-8 loss in Game 2.

Game 1: Fort Lewis 9, Adams State 0

Fort Lewis wasted no time setting the tone, striking in the second inning with an inside-the-park home run. The Skyhawks controlled the game from there, keeping the Grizzlies off the scoreboard and putting the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning.

Adams State had difficulty getting runners on base early and ultimately left seven stranded. The Grizzlies finished with just four hits, while starting pitcher Aubree Davis took the loss, allowing nine earned runs.

Game 2: Fort Lewis 11, Adams State 8

The second game was a different story, as the Grizzlies' offense came alive in a back-and-forth battle that went down to the final inning.

Trailing 6-0 in the second, Adams State stormed back with a five-run rally. Emily Sauvageau's two-run triple sparked the surge, followed by RBI doubles from Kaylee Eyl and Grace Hendrickson to cut the deficit to 6-5.

Fort Lewis added runs in the third and fifth to push its lead to 8-5, but Adams State refused to back down. In the bottom of the fifth, Caylie Eiguren's double and Sauvageau's second triple of the day tied the game at 8-8, igniting the home crowd.

The score remained even heading into the seventh, but Fort Lewis capitalized on a late opportunity, using a double and a sacrifice fly to plate three runs. The Grizzlies couldn't respond in their final at-bat, sealing an 11-8 loss.

Adams State looks to bounce back Friday when it travels to Colorado Springs for a four-game series against the Mountain Lions.
