Grizzlies Drop First Two Games Against UCCS in Weekend Series Opener

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies traveled to Colorado Springs to take on UCCS on Friday. The Grizzlies dropped Game 1, 5-3, and Game 2, 9-4.

Game 1: Adams State 3, UCCS 5

The Grizzlies started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Sydney Rodriguez and Emily Sauvageau.

The Mountain Lions responded with a three-run second inning to take the lead.

Adams State tied the game in the fourth when Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Ali Davis. However, a costly throwing error in the fifth allowed UCCS to score two runs and take a 5-3 lead.

The Grizzlies were unable to rally in the final two innings, giving UCCS the Game 1 victory. Celie Page made the start in the circle for the Grizzlies, allowing five runs on 11 hits.

Game 2: Adams State 4, UCCS 9

The Mountain Lions outpaced the Grizzlies in Game 2, scoring nine runs on 11 hits through seven innings.

UCCS struck early, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Adams State responded in the third when Regan Johnson doubled to drive in Davis and Ellie Heiser, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

The Grizzlies' final runs came in the seventh, when Rodriguez hit a double to right-center, bringing in Grace Hendricks and Johnson. However, the late push fell short, and Adams State dropped its second game of the day.

Brooklyn Burgess pitched a complete game for the Grizzlies, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Adams State will conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. due to weather conditions.
