Grizzlies Fall in Series Finale Against Colorado Christian

Lakewood, Colorado — In the series finale of a four-game set against Colorado Christian, the Grizzlies drop game four by a score of 11-12. The loss drops the Grizzlies to 8-18(4-4 RMAC).

The Cougars started hot, bringing the energy from pitch one today jumping out to a quick 10-run lead after the first four innings of the ball game. The Cougars could score in all four innings, scoring 3 in the first, third, and fourth innings. Maydon and Brassil led the way for the Cougars as the two recorded 7 hits between them, along with 5 RBIs and 5 extra-base hits, which included three homeruns. Maydon truly had a career day as he went 4-5, with two doubles, two homeruns, and 4 RBIs.

On the mound for the Grizzlies, Joseph Marek started the game and had a rough outing, leading to his first loss of the season. Marek threw a total of 2 ⅓ innings, allowing 6 hits and 7 runs(6 earned), walking two, and striking out three. The loss puts Marek at 2-1 on the season. Following Marek were Tyler Smith, Alex Hernandez, and Logan Martin. Hernandez and Martin were the only pitchers of the day that were able to hold the Cougar offense in any fashion. Hernandez threw 2 solid innings and was followed by Martin, who threw two scoreless innings for his first appearance of the year. Martin finished with a line of 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, zero runs, and striking out two.

Once the Grizzlies were able to quiet the Cougar bats just a little, they were able to make their comeback, scoring 2 runs in the sixth and 9 runs in the seventh to make it a score of 11-12. The Grizzly comeback was all started by Colorado Christian's inability to throw strikes. In the seventh inning alone, they walked six Grizzly batters and hit one. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies could not finish the comeback and were held scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, allowing Colorado Christian to close out the game and secure a series win.

Phil Carter led the way for the Grizzlies offensively. He finished the day going 2-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Carter's home run puts him at 9 for the season now and gives him 20 RBIs. Other highlights included Gunnar Martinez and Nolan Marthaler, who both recorded two hits on the game and included 2 doubles by Marthaler.

This was a tough series loss for the Grizzlies after they opened up conference with a bang against Colorado School of Mines last week where they went 3-1 and won their first series of the year. The series loss puts them at an even record of 4-4 in RMAC play but allows them to improve this upcoming week and bounce back next weekend against the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, who is also 4-4 in RMAC play. The Grizzlies will look to win another series against UCCS after last year they went 3-1 against the Mountain Lions. Next week's games will be another 4 game series starting on Friday, March 21st. The series will again be a 1,2,1 series format with Friday's game being followed by a Saturday doubleheader, and a series finale on Sunday. Next Friday's game will be held at 2 PM MST, and will be held at Mountain Lion Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
