Adams State Falls to Dominican in Home Opener, 13-8

Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies opened their home slate with a 13-8 loss to Dominican University of California. The Grizzlies played a physical game with 12 total penalties but were unable to overcome a dominant first quarter from the Penguins.

The Grizzlies started off hot, surging to a 3-1 lead in the first nine minutes, but Dominican went on a fiery run, scoring six unanswered goals to end the first and begin the second quarter. Kris Owens scored the only Grizzlies goal in the second quarter, making it 10-4 at halftime.

Adams State managed to slow down the Penguins in the second half, allowing only three goals while answering with a Danny Joy extra-man goal to bring the game within reach at 13-5.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Grizzlies, with Malik Maxwell, Kagan Swain, and Devon Schmidt all scoring, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit created in the second quarter.

With the loss, the Grizzlies drop to 0-3 (0-3 RMAC) and will look for their first win when they take on Concordia University Irvine at 11 a.m. Sunday.
